Main Entry: sac-ri-lege
Pronunciation: 'sa-kr&-lij
Function: noun
1 : a technical and not necessarily intrinsically outrageous violation of what is sacred because consecrated to God
2 : gross irreverence toward a hallowed person, place, or thing
information: my friend, matt—also known as seniorclassguy from the logs, tech tv, and real life—has created a fun game for everybody to play. it is called Sacrilege - The Game. as i'm sure you can derive from the game's title, it is not a game for everybody. in it, you will kill nuns, slaughter priests, and pound the asses of altar boys (er...), all in an attempt to avoid being converted by them and their hilarious religion comments. however, if this doesn't sound fun to you, you can still play the game by selecting "yes" when asked if you're easily offended, but it definitely won't be as much fun.
instructions: using the onscreen buttons, you guide your character around the world. your goal is to reach the exit without being converted to any disgusting religions. in order to accomplish this goal, you will need to visit the eight treasure chests around the map to strengthen your anti-religion ways. skipping any of the treasures will be punished severely, so be sure not to miss any. this journey won't be as easy as you might suspect, because there will be many religious folks along the way who don't like the thought of you getting past them unconverted. at random spots in the world, you will be assaulted by the religious and will have to fight to survive.
battles: in a battle, your options are to Attack, Bake a Cake, or Run. "Attack" will hit your enemy once, "Bake a Cake" will recover some Hit Points, and "Run" will attempt to escape from battle. no matter what you select, unless you successfully run, your enemy will attack you. if your opponent runs out of hit points, you win, and can continue playing. if you run out of hit points, you will be converted, and the game is over. prevent this from happening by gaining levels through battle experience to make yourself stronger in fights. visiting a treasure chest on the map will also make your character stronger, but should be done regardless of your need for powering up.
hints:
- say "no" to the starting question
- pay attention to the Enemy Level gauge
- fight weaker enemies if you want to get stronger without risking death
- the exit is on the bottom left corner
- visiting all of the treasure chests is absolutely necessary
- if you get some kind of nonsense about vb6 run-time something, or msvbvm60.dll specifically, you need to install the visual basic 6.0 run-time dlls.

updates:
- again, not really an update. i used UPX (http://upx.sourceforge.net) to compress the executable size from about 212k to about 106k. (6/08/05)
- not really an update, but i've decided to mention on this page that there's no installer or uninstaller, just the program itself. (5/29/05)
- a bug, in which running away from battle would cause the treasure chests to reset themselves and possibly also cause the game to become impossible to complete, has been eradicated. (1/26/05)
